December 16 is marked as a day of mourning across the nation

Today marks seven years since the brutal terrorist attack on Army Public School (APS) Peshwar, which resulted in the loss of 140 precious lives, 132 of which were children. December 16 is officially remembered as ‘Black Day’ in memory of those whom the nation lost. Several celebrities and public figures took to social media to honour the victims of the attack, with today’s Twitter trends offering a painful reminder of one of the darkest times in the country’s history.

Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted, “December 16, 2014, terrorists attacked and martyred over 140 people including 132 children in APS Peshawar. Pakistan has successfully defeated terrorism. I reiterate we will never let down the survivors and parents of our martyred children. There is zero tolerance for violence and those using it as a tool.”

“Still have tears in my eyes whenever I think about that horrific day,” wrote actor Ahmed Ali Butt on Instagram. “Nothing can change the past but I hope and pray that nothing like this will ever happen again to anyone. Always in our prayers and memories, Allah bless their souls and give strength to their families.”

Faysal Quraishi tweeted, “We have forgotten many tragedies that occurred in December, but the memory of the blood of inoccent angels distresses me to this day.”

Cricketer Sadab Khan also took to Twitter to share a message in memory of the lives lost, “Nothing more precious than our children who are our future. Can’t explain my sorrow in words for #APSPeshawar. May we never go through something like it again. Praying for peace and justice.”
