KARACHI:

Students of cardiology tasted a dose of spirituality at a lecture dedicated to spiritual aspects of heart.

A lecture entitled 'Spiritual Cardiology' was hosted by the students of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) in which motivational speaker Raja Ziaul Haq was the keynote speaker.

On the occasion, JSMU Vice Chancellor Professor Shahid Rasool appreciated the efforts by the students and said that besides medical education, students should also pay attention towards religious education. Medical education leads to physical healing while religious education leads to spiritual healing, he said.

Haq, while describing 'Spiritual Cardiology', said that there is a general impression that the function of the heart is the uninterrupted supply of blood to the body. However, the heart does not just supply blood.

If this were the case, the phrases 'his heart is hard', 'his heart is cold', 'my heart is broken', 'I listened to my heart' would not be common, he said. "All these commonsense phrases show that the heart is full of emotions and feelings and not only the brain but also our heart sends messages to the central nervous system," he added.

“We are all trying our best to make our appearance beautiful while most of us are not worried about our inner self,” the chief guest said.

"We all need to look at the spiritual condition of the heart. Our heart problems become apparent to us. If there is ego, hatred or malice in one's heart then it will be manifested," he said.

Registrar Dr Azam Khan also addressed the audience. About 500 students, teachers and people from the medical field participated in the lecture. JSMU Chief Clinical Coordinator and Assistant Professor of General Surgery Syeda Zarin Raza played key role in organising the event.
