Electricity prices burden consumers with additional Rs115b

Consumers have been burdened with an additional amount of at least Rs115 billion due to an increase in electricity prices.

According to sources, the price of electricity has been increased by Rs8.94 per unit since November.

In November, the primary electricity tariff was increased by up to Rs68 per unit.

Later on, in the same month, electricity cost was hiked by Rs2.52 per unit as part of the monthly adjustment that had been decided earlier in September.

Sources further said an additional burden of around Rs30 billion was imposed on consumers in the wake of the September fuel adjustment.

As part of another adjustment, the price of electricity was increased by Rs4.74 per unit.

The sources added that the October adjustment had placed an extra burden of about Rs60 billion on consumers.

The increase in the basic tariff in November and December will impose an additional burden of about Rs25 billion on consumers.
