Pakistani UN peacekeeper martyred in CAR: ISPR

So far 162 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid lives as part of global peace missions

A Pakistani peacekeeper, Havaldar Muhammad Shafiq, serving with the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic (CAR) has embraced martyrdom, according to a press release issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.

Havaldar Shafiq of the Pakistan Army joined the UN Mission in Feb 2021, the military media wing stated. "He was a brave and dedicated member of the Pakistan contingent ensuring the protection of civilians in CAR and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance," the ISPR added.

He was buried with full military honour at his native town in Mian Channu, Khanewal. The soldier is survived by his wife and three sons.

In September, The ISPR stated that Lance Naik Adil Jan, serving with the United Nations Mission in Darfur, Sudan embraced martyrdom while on duty.

"Lance Naik Adil Jan, FC Balochistan, age 38 years, resident of Lakki Marwat, was part of UN mission at Darfur [which is] responsible for [the] protection of civilians and facilitating humanitarian assistance," the military's media wing stated.

In 2018, a Pakistani UN peacekeeper was shot dead by ‘members of an armed group’ in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a United Nations spokesperson said.

The incident happened when the Pakistani peacekeeping convoy was ambushed by armed rebels near Lulimba, 96 km south West of Baraka, South Kivu Province.
