Overcharging: Fruit prices inflated in most markets

ISLAMABAD:

The prices of fruits in the open market is higher than wholesale markets due to lack of monitoring, people complained on Tuesday.

Mangoes that sell for Rs50-60 per kg in wholesale market sare sold at Rs100 per kg elsewhere. Bananas, grapes and peaches, also sell at almost double the wholesale rates in the open market.

A group of buyers also complained that vendors in sasta bazaars established by the government do not let them pick fruit and sell substandard goods. “The fruit in the open market is of much better quality but their prices are far higher than at sasta bazaars” a man said.
