KARACHI:

KMC Administrator and Sindh government spokesperson, Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that the suggestions of critics of the local government law have been included in the bill.

"The mayor will be the chairman of the KMC Water Board. The Pakistan Peoples Party's Sindh government has handed over all municipal affairs to local governments and local body elections will be held in the month of March," Wahab said while addressing the Baba-e-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq Conference under Anjuman-e-Urdu Pakistan as a special guest.

The conference was attended by renowned Urdu writers, intellectuals, poets, researchers and literary lovers.

The KMC administrator announced to provide free parks for holding Urdu conferences including KMC Garden, City Council Hall and Frere Hall. He said that everyone has to work for the promotion of Urdu language.

"It is a matter of concern that better Urdu is heard in Lahore than in Karachi. The Government of Sindh will extend all possible cooperation for the promotion and development of the national language," he said. "I have participated in a complete Urdu programme after a long time," he added.

Wahab said that nations that do not value their history and literature are left behind. He suggested that the Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim, Taleemi Bagh, Jahangir Park and other KMC parks were available for holding conferences related to Urdu.
