LAHORE:

President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has called upon "those who love Pakistan" to mull upon stopping the economic destruction of the country with a "patriot spirit".

In a statement released on Saturday, Shehbaz, who is also Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, likened the historic rise of the dollar with a storm of economic destruction.

"The rising dollar and the deteriorating rupee is a sign of lack of governance as well as right economic policies [of the PTI government]," Express News quoted Shehbaz as saying.

According to him, the economy of a country collapses in this way when the ministry of finance refutes the statement of its own financial adviser, and incorrect statistics are put forth before the masses. "The record fiscal deficit puts forth dangerous pointers about the destruction of the economy and the country."

Shehbaz further said that everything – from the government's borrowing, inflation, losses to the rate of dollar – have broken records.

"This wouldn't have been the situation had there been a government elected by the people," he said, adding, "The country has been shoved into an economic pit and we would reach a point of no return if we don't act fast."

The veteran politician warned that the country will be facing another inflation wave from the month of December and it will make the issue worse. "Economic destruction is a death warrant for a nuclear Pakistan and the interests of its existence."

The storm of inflation, he added, will make the nation forget about the [grey list] of the FATF [Financial Action Task Force], so it is imperative to take note of how short we are of time.
