Negotiations between the Punjab education ministry and teachers’ organisations for the promotion of primary, middle and high school teachers have succeeded.

Sources said that a notification regarding the promotion of teachers on the basis of qualification and seniority is expected to be issued next month.

Punjab All Teachers Alliance President Sufi Ramzan Inqilabi confirmed to The Express Tribune that negotiations with special education secretary Dr Sohail Shehzd, Director Public Instruction (DPI) Secretary Mumtaz Hussain Shah and DPI Elementary Rana Abdul Qayyum were successful.

Inqilabi said that the development will improve the education sector and would motivate youth to join the field as teachers will now become financially stable.

The official said that their recommendations have been accepted and the government officials will now initiate legal procedure.

He added that a notification will be issued in December or at the start of January next year.

Sources said that teachers have long been waiting for promotions.
