Sindh government plans to conduct door-to-door social registry survey through polio workers, Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah told a meeting at Sindh Secretariat on Monday.
People identified for assistance will be issued special social registry number, he told the meeting attended by Social Welfare Secretary Abdul Waheed Shaikh, Health Secretary Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Implementation and Coordination Secretary Riaz Hussain Soomro, and other officers attended the meeting.
Briefing the meeting, the officials said that a door-to-door registration campaign would be launched through the polio workers in the province, during the campaign; the polio workers would collect information from the public through a close ended questionnaire and after this a special social registry number will be issued to all persons.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah said that the government was planning to prepare a database on the socio-economic condition of the people of the province.

“During the coronavirus pandemic, Sindh the government felt the need for a registry number to provide direct relief to the people, which would enable efficient and transparent delivery of government relief,” said the chief secretary.
He further said that Sindh Cabinet had approved Rs350 million for social registry campaign.
Mumtaz Ali Shah further said that after getting information through door-to-door campaign by polio workers, a database of this information would be created at the provincial level. It was further informed in the meeting that a successful pilot project of Social Registry has been completed in 12 Union Councils of Karachi.
