RWMC to dispose of solid waste from Pindi

Contract with Turkish firm expires on November 30

RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) will assume charge of the solid waste management in urban areas in Rawalpindi and a union council (UC) of Murree from December 1.

The RWMC’s seven-year contract with implementing Turkish company Albayrak will expire on November 30.

The contract worth Rs8 billion was signed during the tenure of the former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government in 2015, under which the Turkish company took control of the city’s sanitation system. The RWMC’s human resources department was in charge of the management with the company having the transport fleet.

Now the contract with AlBayark is due to expire soon, the company will hand over all transportation and machinery to the RWMC. The third-party inspection for the purpose was already under way.

Sources said RWMC’s monthly expenses will be cut down by 30 per cent after the end of the contract. Meanwhile, 1,450 members of staff, along with an additional 3000, will work under the local company to be hired for sanitation purposes. The workshop for the transport fleet will also be outsourced by the RWMC.

Currently, the RWMC is headed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Colonel (retd) Ajmal Sabir who has issued directions for maintenance of a better cleanliness system.
