Such creative work is soft terrorism: Kangana Ranaut calls out Vir Das

Kangana Ranaut has a record of bagging headlines for all the wrong reasons. To top off her often problematic statements, she recently called comedian and actor Vir Das a “criminal” for his controversial remarks in a video titled I come from two Indias. Vir’s remarks offended the actor and apparently defamed and damaged India as a terrorism wave would.

The video shared by Das was a part of his recent performance at the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington DC and was later shared on his YouTube channel. The clip gauged a lot of attention and went viral because of his honest and brutal commentary on India’s current social and political standing.

The six-minute video expands on the country’s duality on some of the most topical issues like its battle against Covid-19, frequent cases of rape and assaults, the crackdown against comedians, increased censorship to protect the state, and the farmer’s protest.

She went on to quote Winston Churchill giving a reference to Bengal famine and said, “After the Bengal Famine, Churchill said, ‘These Indians breed like rabbits they are bound to die like this.'" He blamed Indians’ sex drive/fertility for the death of millions because of hunger.”

The Queen starlet does not agree with Das’ creative expression and choice of platform. “Such creative work targeting an entire race is soft terrorism. Strict actions must be taken against such criminals,” she concluded tagging the comedian.

While Das’ video triggered sentiments online and social media users accused him of insulting India on the global stage, he issued a statement clarifying that his comments weren't intended to insult the country. According to the Times of India, at least two complaints have already been filed against him on the basis that his ‘derogatory’ statements tarnished and maligned India and its natives’ image on an international platform.
