Pakistan-Sichuan Chamber of Commerce President and Pakistan Commodity Purchasing Centre founder Li Hongwu has said that his centre aims to shorten the lengthy procedure of wholesale, distribution and retail to enable buyers to communicate with manufacturers directly.
“This centre is similar to a factory store, but its quality requirements are more strict,” he said while talking to the China Economic Net.
Hongwu said that the centre selected representative products from both China and Pakistan, where Chinese customers could see and touch Pakistani products.
It could help set a good foundation for wider sale channels of Pakistani products, he said.
“Handmade products with Pakistani characteristics are very popular, such as handmade cashmere scarves,” he added.
“Many people appreciate my handmade brasses and asked me about how many days it takes to make one piece,” said merchant Hamza Malik, whose business settled in the centre.
Last month, the centre organised a seven-day Pakistan experiential event, which attracted around 300 visitors.
“Although China-Pakistan friendship is deeper than the sea, Chinese people still have little knowledge of Pakistan,” Hongwu said.
“We held this event to make people more familiar with our friendly neighbour. The visitors tasted Pakistani milk tea and food, and rice was their favourite.”
“We also played a video of Pakistan’s scenery, and many people are very interested in going on a trip to the country. People’s enthusiasm was beyond our expectations,” Hongwu said.
“During this event, many people came here, and my business was also good,” Malik commented.
“The sales volume was not as big as that in regular exhibitions. However, exhibitions only last for a few days, and here people come and they know we are open every day. It is possible for us to develop long-term businesses,” he added.
“Pakistan Commodity Purchasing Centre in Chengdu is only a start. In the future, more such centres will be set up in different places in China,” Hongwu revealed.
