Stresses importance of understanding Iqbal’s message

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has ruled out politicisation or compromise on the protection of national security and sovereignty.

Talking to the media on Tuesday after laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Poet of East Allama Iqbal and reciting Fateha, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan was pursuing a policy of making Pakistan strong and prosperous in line with the vision of the Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal.

Answering questions of journalists, he said inflation was a big challenge and the federal and Punjab governments are working to deal with it, adding that steps would be taken to provide relief to the people and solve their problems, including inflation and unemployment.

The governor said the opposition should reconsider its policies instead of marching on the streets against the government. He claimed that the opposition parties themselves were confused. There were too many narratives within the opposition parties and they had neither been united earlier nor would it happen in future, he asserted.

He said that despite obstacles created by the opposition, the government would succeed in enacting legislation on important issues, including electoral reforms, in the coming days in a joint session of parliament.

He said giving the right to vote to overseas Pakistani was a mission of the government, in which it would succeed, for strengthening democracy and parliament in Pakistan.

Paying homage to Allama Iqbal, the governor said his teachings became the basis of the concept of Pakistan and his philosophy of Khudi is a beacon for all humanity. He stressed that the need to understand the message and philosophy of Allama Iqbal today was greater than ever before.

“Dr Allama Iqbal will always be remembered for presenting the concept of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. His poetry and teachings help us to understand the true message of Islam,” he said.
