Centre to provide Rs2.65b for education projects in Sindh

Islamabad wants to set up a federal varsity in Hyderabad but Sindh is opposing

HYDERABAD:

The Federal Minister for planning and development, Asad Umar has said that the centre will provide Rs2.65 billion worth of projects to two universities in Jamshoro district besides establishing a new university in Hyderabad.

Addressing a public meeting in Kotri on Sunday Umar blamed Pakistan Peoples Party's Sindh government for failing to carry out development in the province.
He said the Sindh university will be given projects worth Rs1.8 billion and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Rs850 million.

"The PTI government is giving projects worth Rs22 billion to the higher education sector."
He apprised that another sum of Rs230 million will be spent on providing better internet services at the universities.

"The centre is establishing a new university in Hyderabad but the Sindh government has been opposing the initiative," he alleged.

He, however, said the parliament will soon pass a bill for opening a federal university in Hyderabad.
Umar credited the PTI's government for completing Sukkur-Multan motorway and starting the work on Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway for which he said the last date for submission of bids is November 18.

He said soon Pprime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone for the project.

The federal minister asked why flour is being sold at around Rs80 per kilogram in Sindh while the people are buying the same flour in Punjab at Rs55 per kg.

"Sindh is a self-sufficient province in the production of wheat then where all the wheat stock goes. Is it eaten up by the rats?" he questioned.
Commenting on the performance of Sindh government he said it seems the slogan in Sindh in 2023 general elections is going to be 'marsoon marsoon vote na desoon' [we will prefer death over voting for the PPP].

He said the leaders of Pakistan Democratic Movement take to the streets and disappear with the season.
The PTI's vice president and opposition leader in the Sindh assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh and other leaders also spoke on the occasion.
