Official assures action over harassment of women, children

The commissioner assured that immediate action would be taken on any complaint of harassment in any institution

Commissioner Quetta Division Sohailur Rehman Baloch has said that women are equal citizen of society and steps are being taken to effectively prevent incidents of sexual harassment and to provide protection to women and children. In this regard, implementation of the law will be ensured at all costs, he assured.

He expressed these views at a meeting with Dr Sabra Islam, Head of Balochistan Ombudsman Anti-Harassment Cell, Dr Sher Ali Murree, Deputy Director, Sohail Salahuddin and others.

The commissioner said that special cells have been set up at the divisional and district levels to curb the incidents of harassment. He claimed that following these measures the number of such incidents had declined.

He said that harassment was an intolerable practice and all measures were being taken to prevent it.

The commissioner assured that immediate action would be taken on any complaint of harassment in any institution, department and workplace.

In this regard, compliance with the law will be ensured.

The meeting discussed issues related to prevention of harassment and protection of women and children and reviewed the effective strategy against harassment in light of the Anti-Harassment Act.

Various provisions are being implemented in Balochistan and protection of Chadar and Chardiwari is also being ensured in the tradition of Balochistan, assured the commissioner.
