Sindh’s coastline feels minor quake

4.8 quake's epicentre was 50km southwest of Badin at the depth of 17km in Arabian Sea

The seismic fault line along Sindh's coast, long-feared to cause an earthquake and tsunami, budged slightly sending a mild earthquake having a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale.

The shaker caused no loss of life and property, though gave an oft repeated warning of having earthquake emergency in place, particularly in the port city, where residential complexes, tall buildings and office plazas are located close to the shore.

The earthquake of 4.8 magnitude jolted coastal areas of Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal and Badin districts of Sindh on Thursday morning.

The earthquake tremors were felt at 09:45:40am this morning shook Sujawal, Chohar Jamali, Mirpur Bathoro, Jati and other adjacent coastal areas.

In Karachi, tremors were felt at New Challi, Pakistan Chowk and other areas of the city. According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad, the epicentre of the quake was located at 50 kilometres in southwest of Badin at the depth of 17 kilometres.

People came out of their homes and shops in panic amid tremors.

No losses of life have been reported in the moderate intensity earthquake.
