LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has termed price hike and profiteering as critical issues and vowed to protect the public by taking strict action against profiteers.

The chief minister, on Tuesday, asked the local administrations to take effective measures to rein in artificial price hike and ensure availability of essential commodities, especially sugar, at notified rates.

“No one can be allowed to fleece citizens,” he underscored while ordering strict action against profiteers.

He said the availability of essential commodities at a reasonable price is the basic right of citizens and the government will protect it by showing zero-tolerance on the artificial price hike.

Buzdar highlighted that the annual development programme (ADP) of Rs560 billion will spur the composite development process in the province. The government has decided to encourage the administration to show good performance and make poor performers answerable.

He reiterated that the ADP will augur well for the development and strengthening of the economy. The people would equally benefit from the fruits of development as the government was committed to providing relief to the citizens, he added.
