LAHORE:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday rejected the nomination papers of PTI candidate Jamshed Iqbal Cheema and his covering candidate Musarrat Jamshed Cheema after they failed to prove that their proposers on the nomination papers belonged to the contested constituency of NA-133.

It is worth mentioning that the proposers on the nomination papers of the candidate and his covering candidate were not the residents of NA-133, from where they are contesting the by-election.

As per election laws, the proposer must be a resident of the same constituency from where a candidate is contesting the election.

The PML-N had challenged the nomination papers of Cheema, who is contesting the by-election after the death of PML-N’s Muhammad Pervez Malik.

PML-N's Shayesta Pervez Malik is contesting the NA-133 by-poll after the death of her husband and while PTI nominated Cheema in the said constituency.

On Saturday, the election commission heard detailed arguments from both sides and then reserved the decision. Later, the decision was announced and Cheema's nomination papers rejected.
