ISLAMABAD:

Justice Faez Isa and PTI lawmaker Akram Cheema on Wednesday got into an apparent brawl outside the Parliament House when the latter obstructed the pathway of the former during a rally to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day.

According to sources, MNA Cheema had obstructed the pathway of Justice Isa during a rally held to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day. The angry lawmaker used some harsh words for the judge that led to a brawl between the two, sources added. A bitter exchange of words between the two ensued, they added.

Justice Isa walked away from the incident and lodged complaint with police.

As per sources, Islamabad police had arrested Cheema and taken his car into custody. It was revealed that the lawmaker’s vehicle was non-customs paid.

The incident prompted National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser to take notice and seek a report from the IG Islamabad

“On what grounds Cheema has been arrested,” Qaiser inquired and ordered the IG Islamabad to submit a report soon. After the intervention of the NA speaker, the MNA reached the parliament house from Police Station Secretariat. Cheema met Qaiser and briefed him about the incident.

Cheema, the lawmaker elected from Karachi, said: “My privilege has been violated.”

On the other hand, SP City Rana Wahab told Express News the matter was only about illegal number plate and the traffic police fined the lawmaker on this.

“Cheema’s vehicle is perfectly clear and you can pick it up from police whenever you want,” he added.

Justice Isa’s version

“I have not given orders for anyone’s arrest. I gave orders in court not while walking,” Justice Isa said in a statement.

“I daily go to the Supreme Court… in the morning a suspicious car appeared on the footpath outside parliament. I don’t know who was in the car. I just asked police about the car,” he said, “the person sitting in the car used harsh words and brought the car inside parliament.”

The judge added that he asked the police personnel outside parliament to check the vehicle. At this, he added, the driver stopped his way after coming from parliament.

Justice Isa said he remained silent when the unidentified person in the car again used bad words for him.

“After seeing the illegal number plate, I had only asked police to check the vehicle. I also get my driver fined for being illegal,” Justice Isa said.
