Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said poverty alleviation was among the priorities of the incumbent government as “we are fully aware of the difficulties and problems of the underprivileged segment of the society”.
The chief minister expressed these views in his message on World Poverty Alleviation Day on Saturday.
“The government has launched several projects which focus on welfare as well as uplift the living standard of such deprived segments of the society,” the CM remarked.
Buzdar highlighted that rapid industrialisation could alleviate poverty by providing maximum employment opportunities. He termed the redressal of economic inequalities to overcome poverty was the need of the hour.

“Poverty alleviation is of utmost importance to eradicate extremism from the society adding that inequitable distribution of resources increases economic disparities.
The chief minister stressed upon the well-to-do segment of the society to put all their efforts into the eradication of poverty as it was their national and social responsibility.
“Every individual of the society should play their due role in poverty alleviation as this day provides an opportunity to take steps to lessen the hardships of poor people,” he said.
Earlier, lawmakers from Rawalpindi called on the CM and discussed the initiatives being taken to resolve the problems of their respective constituencies and the progress of various ongoing development projects and welfare schemes.
The MPAs apprised the chief minister of the problems of their constituencies on which he issued an instruction on the spot to address these issues.
