ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was moved on Monday against the examination regulations 2021 introduced by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).

Islamabad High Court Bar Association former secretary Waqas Malik said that he had filed the petition on the wishes of late Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, who died on Sunday.

Malik said that Dr AQ Khan was perturbed over the discriminatory attitude meted out to the young doctors and he had instructed him to file a petition on his behalf.

The lawyer said he had gotten the signature of Dr AQ Khan on a power of attorney and the plea, which was supposed to be filed on Monday.

He said that he wanted to pursue the case himself after the demise of Dr Khan.

The petition had made the Pakistan Medical Commission, the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination and others as respondents.

The petition said that the use of batons against the protesting young doctors had tarnished the image of Pakistan internationally. It further said the decision of dissolving the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and setting up the PMC has created flaws in the system.

The petition said that a new test system had been introduced for the medical students and its fee had been increased to Rs6,000 per candidate.
