Citizen foils mugging bid, kills robber on Mauripur Road

Suspect was snatching cash, cell phones from people stuck in traffic jam

 A man coming Karachi from Quetta along with his family shot and killed a suspected robber on the Mauripur Road.

After getting information, police and rescuers reached the crime scene and inquired about the incident while the body of the suspected criminal was rushed to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for an autopsy.

Officials of the Mauripur Police Station said that two armed men were busy in snatching cash and cell phones from people stuck in a traffic jam on the Mauripur Road.

However, when the approached a family coming to Karachi from Quetta in a car during a traffic jam when one of the family members, Barkat Ali, using his licenced pistol shot fire at the suspects, killing one of them at the spot while his companion managed to flee.

Police also recovered a weapon and cell phones from the possession of the dead robber. Police said that the robber killed is yet to be identified. Police said that the suspects had already looted cell phones and cash from another family in a car shortly before they attempted to rob the family of Barkat Ali. Further investigation was underway.

Upon receiving information, police and rescue workers shifted the body Sher Zaman, 35, to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

Docks Police Station officials said that as per Zaman’s colleagues, he went to sleep on Saturday night but did not wake up. People woke him up, but found out that he was dead.

 The cause of death was not immediately known and the family did not get an autopsy conducted. Police handed over the body to the relatives after completing formalities.

Meanwhile, body of a youth was found from a garbage dump near Bilal Hotel in Nazimabad No2. Rescue officials say nothing was found on the body that could help identify him while his age is known to be between 25 to 30 years.

The body did not appear to have any marks of firing, torture or injury, so the cause of death was not immediately known.
