Another earthquake hits Balochistan’s Harnai

Death toll of Thursday's earthquake reached 26 after a few more wounded succumbed to their injuries

Days after the deadly earthquake claimed lives of over two dozen people, another tremor struck parts of Balochistan on Sunday evening.

A 4.5 magnitude quake jolted vast areas of Harnai, Sibi, and Quetta at around 10pm today, forcing the people to leave their homes.

According to reports, half a dozen people were injured in the Harnai area where an already damaged wall was collapsed. The injured were shifted to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, the death toll of Thursday's earthquake has reached 26 as some of the wounded succumbed to their injuries while over 200 were still receiving medical treatment.

The US Geological Survey said Thursday's quake had a magnitude of 5.7 and struck around 3am at a shallow depth of around 20 kilometres.

The worst-affected area was Harnai, where a lack of paved roads, electricity and mobile phone coverage hampered rescuers. A power cut forced health workers to treat the injured using flashlights, according to the officials and rescuers.

On Friday, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the Pakistan Army urban search and rescue teams were busy with speedy rescue and relief efforts in the affected area. "Necessary medical care being provided by army and Frontier Corps doctors and paramedics," it added.

The statement said that 300 special food and administrative package including tents, blankets and meals were provided to the affected population.
