Reinstated: AMC employees call off strike

ABBOTABAD:

The sacked employees of Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad Monday agreed to call off their strike after the administration agreed to reinstate 200 employees on Monday.

The AMC administration terminated the services of 465 daily wage employees on July 22. The decision was taken as the provincial government was going through a financial crisis and could not bear the expenditure on daily wage workers.

The sacked employees include over 40 medical officers, paramedical staff, ward orderlies, IT department employees, maintenance and class IV staff, including over 100 women. Following the administration’s decision, the sacked employees held a protest for 25 consecutive days, demanding their restoration.

After prolonged negotiations, the administration agreed to reinstate 100 employees immediately, while the remaining 100 employees would be reinstated after Eid. The protesters were also visited by Provincial Minister for Industries Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah, who persuaded them to remove the protest camp following the management’s decision.

The protesters warned that they would take to the streets again if the administration failed to honour its word.
