ISLAMABAD:

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Tuesday said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) to push the Sindh government for an immediate release of wheat to bring down its price across the province.

In a tweet, the minister decried the skyrocketing wheat prices in the province and claimed that the reason for such a sharp increase in the prices was the provincial government’s decision to block the release of 1.2 million tons of wheat.

He said that the Sindh government did not buy wheat during the harvesting season. The directives come amid a price surge in the province.

The federal government had recently started releasing wheat from warehouses in Punjab at an issue price of Rs1,950 per 40kg, which was helping reduce flour prices by Rs7/kg.

However, consumers in Sindh continue to suffer as they have to buy flour at a much higher price.
