COAS, Saudi Naval commander discuss Afghan situation

Both sides assured to further expand Pak-KSA defence and security cooperation, states ISPR

Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa discussed the situation in Afghanistan and its bearing on regional peace and stability with Commander Royal Saudi Naval Forces Vice Admiral Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Ghufaili on Tuesday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The Saudi naval commander called upon the army chief at General Headquarters (GHQ) during which matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and cooperation in military and maritime domains were discussed.

“[The] COAS reiterated that both countries share the great history of cordial relations and deep-rooted spirit of brotherhood, which has transformed into an enduring partnership,” the ISPR stated.

The ISPR added that the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role in the Afghan situation, especially the assistance in the successful evacuation operations and pledged to continue working with Pakistan for regional peace.

Both sides assured to further expand Pak-KSA defence and security cooperation, it added.

Meeting with CJCSC

Seperealty, Vice Admiral Fahad also called upon Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza at Joint Staff (JS) Headquarters.

“Besides security, regional issues, particularly the latest developments in Afghanistan, matters related to enhancing the level and scope of bilateral military engagements and cooperation in various fields between the two brotherly countries were discussed during the meeting,” the ISPR stated.

Furthermore, chairman JCSC emphasised the need to further enhance the existing defence and security cooperation between both brotherly countries and said that Pakistan-KSA cooperation would have a positive impact on peace and security in the region.

According to ISPR, the visiting dignitary remained appreciative of the sincere efforts of the Pakistan armed forces in bringing peace to the region especially the Afghan Peace Process. They also acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the war against terrorism.

“Chairman JCSC thanked the dignitary and said that Pakistan Defence Forces greatly values its close brotherly ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” the communiqué concluded.
