Most Covid-related problems resolved: Alvi
Pakistan has resolved its Covid-related problems to a large extent and the economy is now moving in the right direction, said President Dr Arif Alvi.
Speaking at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday, he said that the region was undergoing rapid changes and Pakistan could take advantage of it.
“Despite the challenging circumstances, our businessmen continued to run their enterprises and work day and night to increase the country’s exports,” he cherished. “Due to their efforts, Pakistan’s exports crossed the $25 billion mark in fiscal year 2020-21.”
He noted that Pakistan enjoyed an important geographical location as it was connected to South Asia, Central Asia and West Asia.
Alvi called on the business community to take benefit of the unique position of the country and enhance trade and exports.
“The government is completely aware of the problems faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the leadership is providing a conducive environment to the business community,” he said.
“Reviving the economy is first priority of the government and we aim to accelerate exports and fuel economic growth,” he said.
He voiced hope that the current government would leave a better Pakistan for future generations.

Speaking on the occasion, FPCCI President Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo cherished that Pakistan’s economy was moving towards sustainable growth, prosperity and stability. He projected that the country would emerge as an economic power in the region.
“Afghanistan has kick-started the process of reconstruction and Pakistan should be ready to derive economic benefits from the neighbouring country,” he said.
“The business community has immense potential to capitalise on the benefits of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.”
He emphasised that the country needed to move beyond conventional products and markets for exports. “There is an urgent need to address the issues hindering the industry and trade,” he said.
Former FPCCI president Mian Anjum Nisar said that despite all the difficulties, exporters were working hard for development of the country.
