KARACHI:

Two policemen and a citizen have been arrested for the murder of teenager who was reported missing last year.

On Sunday, the police claimed to have obtained five-day physical remand of the suspects and said interrogation was underway. According to Boat Basin Investigation Officer (IO) Rana Latif, 19-year-old Ali Raza was abducted from Shah Latif Colony on August 12, 2020.

His body was found three days later in Sakran, Lasbela district, Balochistan. The victim's father had expressed suspicion at police constables, Asad and Aurangzeb, who are brothers but at the time the police did not have sufficient evidence. Raza's name was also included in the Sindh High Court's missing persons list.

According to South SSP, the number of man, identified as Naveed Shehzad, was found in the deceased's call records and was traced to the location where Raza's mobile phone was believed to have been switched off. The SSP said the police traced Shehzad from Pindi Gheb, Attock, Punjab and arrested him.

During interrogation Shehzad confessed to the murder and named the two policemen as his accomplices, said the police, adding that the accused constables were subsequently arrested. The suspects confessed to abducting Ali Raza from Shah Rasool Colony within the limits of Boat Basin Police Station and took him to Sakran Road near Hub, said the SSP.

There, the two constables took the young man to the bushes and killed him, he added. The police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
