I sarcastically joked that you should be scared of and pamper your husband: Muneeb Butt

Actor feels that his statements in a recent talk show with Nida Yasir should not have been taken seriously.

A snippet of Muneeb Butt on Nida Yasir’s talk show has been doing the rounds on social media lately.

The clip sees the actor crack a controversial ‘joke’ after he asks the host about her biggest fear. Yasir quips, “I am afraid of the possibility of my husband marrying again.” To this, Butt replies, “This fear needs to be there, every woman needs to have this fear so that she pampers her husband in order for him to not even think about anyone else.”

As the video circulated online, several called out Butt for instilling a fear that often makes women feel subservient to their husbands, while others accused him of exploiting an exception, and making it okay for others to exploit it too.

Now, Butt has schooled users and online publications for ‘maligning’ his character by misrepresenting his ‘joke’. Taking to Instagram, Butt shared the same video and wrote, “This is the clip that is being misinterpreted by a few publications. This was not a serious conversation, as seen, we were joking and I sarcastically joked that you should be scared and pamper your husband even more.”

He went on to allege that a clip had been ‘picked’ and “used in a different context, to malign my character.” The Qarar actor added, “[This] is not journalism.” He went on to assure that he does not want “women [to] live under a constant fear that their husband will leave them. I am a husband myself and love my wife and she loves me. That’s the basic pillar of our relationship.”

The celebrity went on to request all the pages and publication sharing his clip to “do their fact checks before spreading such negative content.”

Yasir also commented in coherence with Butt’s sentiments. She wrote, “Menay bhi masti men bola tha, baton ko alag rang kiun detay hain log? (I was also joking when I said what I said. Why do people give everything a different colour?) Matlab ab masti mazaaq bhi na karen, jaan lengay kya hamari? (Now should we stop joking around as well?)”
