The Lahore High Court (LHC)’s Justice Rasaal Hasan Syed sought reply from Raiwind assistant commissioner (AC) for allegedly taking 16 lambs into his custody of a restaurant and then donating them to Edhi centre as a ‘punishment’ over violating Covid-19 SOPs.
Petitioner Umair Shah filed a writ petition through Advocate Kabir Chaudhary and made respondents to the assistant commissioner, commissioner, deputy commissioner and others.
The counsel implored the court that the assistant commissioner conducted a raid at their restaurant and argued that the management of the restaurant allegedly violated Covid-19 SOPs.
The restaurant staff tried to convince the AC that they did not violate any Covid-19 SOPs but he continued arguing that the SOPs were violated. Finally, the AC seize 16 lambs from the restaurant and then donated them to an Edhi centre.
The petitioner told the court that it was not the right of the assistant commissioner to take into possession the lambs, arguing that the AC could impose a fine or seal the restaurant if the law permits him to do so in the case where the restaurant’s administration was found violating Covid-19 SOPs.
He prayed to the court that directions be passed to quarters concerned to initiate proceedings against the respondent assistant commissioner.
