KARACHI:

Power supply to significant parts of Karachi was disrupted on Wednesday after the entire K-Electric system had tripped following a lightning strike on the Jamshoro circuit.

"Power supply to all residential feeders has been normalised. More than 1,600 feeders have been powered up by KE," K-Electric said on its official Twitter handle.

According to media reports, several areas including Defence, Clifton, Saddar, MA Jinnah Road, Malir, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, North Karachi and others remained without electricity for many hours.

K-Electric said that the power was restored at Dhabeji Water Pumping Station and Karachi Airport as well.

In another tweet earlier, the KE said that the power supply to the port city was disrupted due to tripping in an EHT transmission line caused by lightning strike on the Jamshoro circuit, resulting in disconnection between KE and NTDC circuits.

"KE's power plants are operating in island mode which has enabled swift restoration of power. Power connections between KE and NTDC have also been restored," it added.
