LARKANA:

The Jamaat e Islami (JI) on Sunday took out a family walk in Karachi demanding restoration of once "clean and green" North Nazimabad - a slogan adopted by the town during the tenure of Late Nematullah Khan, fomer mayor of Karachi.

According to a press release of JI, large number of area residents, including women and children, participated in the walk. JI Karachi chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman led the walk that was taken out from Five Star round about to Landi Kotal round about in North Nazimabad.

Addressing the participants of the walk, Naeem said that in the past those who claimed to have mandate of the city, ruined the megalopolis.

He said that on one hand the quarters that claimed to be the sole representative of the city propelled the culture of corruption to the next level in the institutions while on the other they did not raise a strong and fruitful voice on the floor of assemblies in the favour of Karachi.

The JI leader said it was an irony that the city producing more than 70 per cent revenue for the country was kept deprived from its due share in the same revenue.

The tragedy is that the saga remains continue, he added. Lambasting the federal government, he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has paid three visits to Karachi in the last three years and has announced three packages but noting has been spent on the ground so far.

Out of the total outlay of Rs650 billion, the federal government had allocated Rs18 billion but was unable to spend even only Rs2billion, he said.

Similarly, nothing was done to resolve the issue of water shortage in the city. In contrast, tanker mafia was unleashed on the city with remaining water resources. Same goes for the other political parties in the Center, he said adding that the PML-N government was able to construct mass transit system in Lahore and other cities but it failed to deliver even a single such project in Karachi.

The project launched by the PML-N government in this regard was still in limbo, he said. The JI leader said that on the provincial level, the PPP exploits the sentiments of Sindhi people and later plunder their resources and violates the rights of citizens.

He also highlighed the issue of the last census, saying that the Karachi's population was shown half as compare to the heads on ground. JI leadrer Wajih Hassan and others also addressed the walk.
