Covid death toll shoots past 6,800

Sindh reports 37 fatalities, over 1,200 new infections

The pandemic has claimed 37 more lives in Sindh, which reported more than 1,200 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's House, the provincial pandemic death toll and tally of confirmed cases has risen to 6,803 and 428,116, respectively.

CM Syed Murad Ali Shah said 1,217 new cases emerged when 18,817 samples were tested for the contagion, indicating a detection rate of 6.5 per cent. Another 1,528 persons also regained health overnight, added Shah, bringing the number of recoveries thus far to 371,799.

As many as 49,514 confirmed Covid patients are currently under treatment, apprised the CM. Of them, 48,434 were in home isolation, 34 at isolation centres and 1,046 admitted at different hospitals. The condition of 928 patients was stated to be critical, with at least 86 shifted to ventilators.

Of the 1,217 new cases, 596 were detected in Karachi.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad reported 146 fresh infections, Badin 42, Mirpurkhas 34, Sanghar and Tharparkar as many, Umerkot 33, Shaheed Benazirabad 30, Matiari 27, Thatta 24, Sukkur and Tando Allahyar each reported 22 new cases, Jamshoro 19, Sujawal 18, Ghotki 17, Kashmore 15, Dadu and Tando Muhammad Khan as many, Naushero Feroze and Shikarpur 14 each, Jacobabad nine, Khairpur five and Lakana reported two new cases.
