ISLAMABAD:

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is of critical importance for Pakistan and the region.

The foreign minister reiterated that Pakistan has supported the Afghan peace process with the utmost effort during the call with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi

Qureshi pointed out that Pakistan and China, as part of Troika Plus, made valuable contributions to these efforts.

In the given situation, it was extremely important to ensure safety and security for the protection of the rights of the Afghan people, he said, adding that an inclusive political settlement was essential for which the Afghans needed to work together.

The foreign minister added that it was equally important for the international community to remain engaged in support of the Afghan people.

Qureshi apprised his Chinese counterpart about Pakistan's efforts to facilitate the evacuation of personnel and staff of diplomatic missions, international organisations, media and others from Afghanistan.

He said both Pakistan and China were "iron brothers and strategic partners" and the two countries have the tradition of maintaining close coordination and communication on issues of common interest and significance.

Foreign Minister Qureshi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi agreed to remain in close contact to promote the shared objectives.
