Despite steps taken by the police for safety of citizens on the occasion of Independence Day, at least 101 people, including 35 children, were injured in traffic accidents.
Of them, 48 were provided medical aid on the spot, while the others have been admitted to various hospitals.
Police arrested 39 people, including 16 involved in onewheeling on motorcycles, and registered cases against them. Officials termed the high number of accidents a matter of concern for the district police.
Faisalabad Police Chief Sohail Chaudhry had claimed on Saturday that checkpoints had been set up all over the city to stop the youth indulging in violation of traffic rules.
However, a large number of youngsters removed the silencers of motorcycles and roamed on all the roads of the city, including major highways.
According to official record, at least 101 people, including 35 children, were injured in accidents.
Among them are 15-yearold Abid Talib, 17-year-old Muhammad Ali, 10-yearold Rohan Zain, 11-yearold Mohsin Saleem, 19-year-old Liaqat Ali, Qasim Iqbal, 14-year-old Farman Ramzan, 19-year-old Ilyas, 14-year-old Ijaz, 18-year-old Zeeshan Yusuf and Riaz Asghar. Rescue 1122 teams shifted them to hospitals. Lyallpur Town police arrested nine persons, Jaranwala division two persons.
