A man allegedly involved in digging up and raping the body of a 14-year-old girl from a grave in Thatta district a day ago was killed by the police in an encounter in the early hours of Sunday.
The police had detained Rafique Chandio on Saturday after a case was lodged against him by the father of the 14-year-old girl.
In the FIR, Ramzan Chandio had accused Rafique of committing the crime, saying the suspect allegedly had a ‘notorious’ background of selling moonshine liquor and molesting children.
The police traced the suspect and took him into custody within a few hours. According to the police, the suspect was “identified by the gravedigger in his statement” to the police while his ring - found on the scene - also tied him to the crime.

At around 1:30am on Sunday, a day after the arrest, Chandio was killed in an encounter in the jurisdiction of Gharo police station.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered the police to show no mercy to the culprits involved in crimes against women, children and minorities.
The CM has also ordered the Sindh police to step up operations against the drugs mafia across the province.
Case
The girl, who had died of fever and low blood pressure, was buried two days ago in Molvi Ashraf Chandio village, Mirpur Sakro taluka of Thatta district. However, a day later her body was found by some boys in a field.
"When my brother and cousin went to the grave today [Saturday] around 7am in the morning, they saw the grave open, and the body missing," the father had said.
"Moments later some boys who had gone to work in the fields came back to the village shouting that they have seen a body in the bushes," he added.
Ramzan had told the local media that they immediately informed the police, who shifted the body to the taluka hospital for medical examination. The medical report confirmed rape. The body was buried again after the completion of medico-legal formalities.
