RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has envisaged two mega development projects for Rawalpindi city.

The RDA is planning the construction of a signal-free underpass near district Kachehri chowk and an underpass near Fuji Foundation chowk.

According to the RDA, both projects will be completely signal-free and environmental-friendly. The Kacheri Chowk underpass will be constructed with the latest technology. The project will also be Rawalpindi’s only double underpass, officials said.

According to the officials, with the construction of the underpass, traffic will flow with ease on the route, which often remains busy with VVIP movement.

Over 0.1 million vehicles and motorbikes pass through this busy Chowk daily. The foundation stone of this mega project will be laid in January 2022 at the beginning of the new year and it will be completed in one-and-a-half-year.

The underpass will have computerized LED lights and a green area on both sides. Around 25,000 eco-friendly trees will be planted around the entire underpass. Funds have also been allocated for the mega project by including it in the annual development programme 2021-22.

Its feasibility has been prepared at a cost of Rs18.5 million while its PC-1 is in the final stage, which will be approved soon.

After the completion of this mega project, the foundation stone of the Defense Chowk underpass will be laid. This underpass will be completed in six months.
