Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani has stressed the need for self-accountability in the police department.
He presided over a high-level meeting on issues related to self-accountability of the police force at Central Police Office on Monday. If an FIR is registered against a police officer or official, the Internal Accountability Branch should conduct a self-inquiry, Ghani said.
“Any delay in bringing cases against police to a logical conclusion should not be allowed.
Where there is no departmental action against the officer or official concerned after the registration of the case, the supervisory officer has to respond.”

He further said that if an FIR was registered against any police officer or official in any region or district of the province, the Internal Accountability Branch should conduct its own inquiry. “The Regional and District Monitoring Units should ensure close monitoring of the cases registered against the police officers and officials.”
The IGP added that if the FIR against a police officer or official was proved to be false, the officers who allow such cases should be held accountable.
He further said that if any officer or official was suspended and his inquiry was not completed within the stipulated time, an explanation should be sought from the senior officer concerned.
