PM Imran inspects Pakistani-made electronic voting machine

Expresses optimism over contestants accepting results of next general elections

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Imran Khan inspected Pakistani-made electronic voting machine (EVM) developed by the science ministry on Sunday, and expressed optimism that "all contestants will accept election results".

"Inspecting Pakistani-made electronic voting machines by our Science & Technology Ministry," PM Imran said on Twitter.

"Looks like finally we will have elections in Pakistan where all contestants will accept the results. Congratulations to Shibli Faraz and his team," he added.

A day earlier, the Ministry of Science and Technology said that the newly-developed EVM will be presented in the National Assembly Session on August 9 before the session begins.

Federal Minister Shibli Faraz cordially invited the members to share their observations and constructive remarks on the machine.

The statement further said that the EVM was presented to the premier, who appreciated and highlighted the importance of the introduction of the machine for a free and credible election.

He observed that free and credible elections using technological advancements was the need of time.

The machine will be presented in the National Assembly Session on August 9 before the session begins.

Subsequently, it will be presented to the provincial assemblies and members will be requested to vote using the EVM in order to understand the process better.

The machine will then be presented to the Senate chairman on August 10 followed by its presentation to the National Assembly Speaker on August 11.
