Excise squad suspended over harassment charges

Adviser to the Chief Minister on Excise and Taxation Khaliqur Rehman has suspended the entire excise squad on misbehaving with tourists in the Hazara region.

The squad was found involved in checking the vehicles of the tourists on Naran Road and harassing them without any reason. Talking to media men, Khaliqur Rehman said that tourists coming to the area from other provinces and places were guests and mistreatment of guests was not their tradition and in this connection an inquiry committee had been formed to probe the matter within seven days.

The inquiry committee would consist of director general Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control. He said that due to unauthorised road checking, the services of the follow staff of EIB-3 Mobile Squad Hazara region, have been placed under suspension with immediate effects.

Those who were suspended include ASI Sardar Abdul Majeed, constables Fayaz, Naveed Ashraf and Mehmood and driver Shah Imtiaz.

Moreover, the said officials were also directed to leave their official vehicles at the Province Excise Warehouse with immediate effect. Masaud Haq, Excise and Taxation Officer (Counter Narcotics Operation), has been nominated as inquiry officer and he is directed to submit the fact-finding report to the director general Excise, Taxation, Narcotics Control, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa within seven days.
