Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Zaidi, while opposing governor’s rule in Sindh, said only legal procedures would be adopted to improve governance and administration in the province.
Talking to the media on his visit to Karachi Port Trust’s Pier 3 on Wednesday, Zaidi said that the vessel bearing the Pakistan flag had the first right of berthing before any other ship. In case of a written request by the ministry of defence, however, another ship is berthed based on demand.
“Due to bad weather, the anchors of many ships have broken in the last few days. The ship stranded on the shores of Karachi has nothing to do with us.”
Commenting on the achievements of the ministry, he said that KPT saved Rs600 million in the last five months, while none of its employees were fired during this period. He further said that a letter requesting appointment of a permanent KPT chairman will be issued soon.

Zaidi added he was trying to improve the institution.
The minister said that there are three oil piers on Keamari which handle all the liquid cargo. “Oil Pier 3 has been rebuilt on a fast-track basis, despite Covid-19 and it is expected to function without major faults for the next 25 years.
