Noor murder accused taken to Lahore for polygraph test

Accused taken to Punjab Forensic Science Agency under tight security

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad police took Zahir Jaffer, the suspect in the Noor Mukadam brutal murder case, to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency in Lahore on Friday, for a polygraph test and forensic analysis of CCTV footage.

The accused was taken to the agency following a July 28 hearing wherein the prosecution was granted his three-day physical remand.

Zahir Jaffer, accused of murdering and beheading 27-year-old Noor Mukadam on June 20, is reported ot have since confessed to his crimes. However, sources claim that Jaffer has repeatedly changed his reasoning for committing the crime.

On July 28, a sessions court extended the physical remand of Zahir Jaffer to three days.

Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Shoaib Akhtar ordered the police to produce the accused before the court on July 31, on expiration of the physical remand.

The accused's parents, Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, are also facing a trial for their alleged role in the murder.

Additional sessions judge Muhammad Sohail heard the bail pleas of the two accused today.

Adjourning the proceeding till August 4, the court ordered the two sides in the case to furnish conclusive arguments on the next hearing.

Additionally, the court approved Noor Mukadam's father, Shoukat Ali Mukadam's, plea for more time to arrange a counsel to represent him, directing him to submit credentials of his counsel today (Friday).

The brutal case of Noor Mukadam sparked nationwide outrage with thousands of people calling on the authorities to take the case to its logical end. The post-mortem report indicated last week that the victim had succumbed to her injuries before being beheaded.
