A woman, who was grievously injured by an assailant in Mahota Mohra village of Chauntra on Saturday after she attempted to save her 14-month-old baby from the violent attacker, died at district headquarters (DHQ) hospital on Sunday.
The alleged assailant, Wajid, had killed the 14-month-old baby of the woman after raping her in a desolated place.
When she resisted the assailant, he attacked her with a sharp object too and injured her seriously, according to locals and the police.
The alleged killer has gone into hiding after committing the crime while the police claimed to have formed teams to conduct raids and arrest him.
According to the police, 30-year-old Naseem Bibi was called to a desolate place near Mahota Mohra village of Chauntra by Wajid who later raped her. After raping her, the suspect then killed her 14-month-old baby with a sharp object.
While trying to save her son, Naseem Bibi had sustained serious injuries on her neck as the suspect had attacked her with the same blunt object.
The 30-year-old woman had been shifted to the DHQ for treatment and a team of doctors tried hard to save her life. However, she succumbed to the wounds and breathed her last on Sunday.

The police have handed over the victim’s body to the family after carrying out an autopsy.
The slain woman’s mother, Shamim Bibi, while talking to The Express Tribune said that her daughter and grandson were brutally killed and the killer must be brought to book.
Meanwhile, the mother and the child were laid to rest in a local graveyard of the Mahota Mohra area as a large number of people attended the funeral.
Sources said that the suspect, Wajid, works at a furniture shop and has a bad reputation in the neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, police have not been able to determine why the woman went to the desolated place when the suspect called her. According to locals, the location where the crime occurred is so dangerous that even men fear to go there at day time without being equipped.
It has also been learnt that the police have also sought assistance from an intelligence agency to arrest the fleeing suspect.
The Chauntra station house officer said that teams have been raiding different locations and the suspect would soon be arrested.
He said that the police have already taken into custody the suspect’s relatives and friends for interrogation.
