Viqar-un-Nisa college made university

After upgradation, this will be 6th university in Rawalpindi district

RAWALPINDI:

The government has formally approved to upgrade the status of Government Viqar-un-Nisa Post Graduate College to a university. Punjab Governor Sarwar Chaudhry will issue a notification in August.

After upgradation, this will be the sixth university in Rawalpindi district to start operation and the third one in the province to be granted a charter by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

The government had already assigned the status of a university to Satellite Town Post Graduate Girls College while a new university had been established in Malika Kohsar in Murree. Fatima Jinnah Women’s University, Engineering University Taxila, and Barani Agricultural University are already operational in Rawalpindi besides the institutions that received upgradation.

The principal of the Viqar-un-Nisa Post Graduate College will become the first vice-chancellor. The government will initially issue funds worth Rs200 million for the institution.

The institution is sprawled over a large area while the construction of a new hostel has been completed. A new block has been constructed in the college while there is room for building more.

The only requirement for the upgraded institution is faculty. Meanwhile PhD, M.Phil and Master’s degree holders are already teaching there. Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said working for education was his mission.

He said the government had built 60 schools and colleges in Rawalpindi. The minister said they would build two new degree colleges for Rawalpindi.
