Humans rely on social connections for almost everything. The world we once knew with closely-knit bonds and well-integrated communities has been disrupted significantly due to the social distancing measures imposed upon us by the pandemic. If people have learned anything from this global health crisis, it's truly the value of having people around.

Pakistan, in general, is blessed to have long-standing social and cultural norms that teach us to co-exist in peace and harmony. We are blessed to have a strong community, where people just don’t share walls, they also share lives with each other.

For us, neighbours gradually become closer than family because it is usually the neighbours who respond promptly to emergencies and come to our rescue every time we need help. They have a unique role and involvement in our day-to-day lives as these neighbours are also the ones who are part of every occasion that we may celebrate. But as the saying goes, where there is love, there can also be misunderstandings. Sometimes, differences can arise, even among neighbours. But don’t worry, Pepsi has a refreshing solution for everyone out there looking to change the game.

Pepsi Pakistan recently rolled out their latest campaign #WhyNotMeriJaan which commendably depicts how we can break barriers with the power of warmth, friendliness, and positivity. The ad film grips us with the elegant presence of Marina Khan who represents the typical mindset that many people have adopted. Her character instructs Syra’s to respond with coldness when their daily routine is interrupted by an odd shuttlecock that keeps landing within their home’s boundary.

Syra’s character plays a pivotal role in the narrative. She symbolizes the much-needed bold yet optimistic mindset that is needed to make the world a much more empathetic place where we care about building robust relationships rather than letting them be. The TVC leaves us with thought-provoking questions while the incredibly catchy slogan spruces up the refreshing message delivered very subtly by the innovative ad film.

Interestingly, this ad film won the hearts of millennials who felt like the message aligns with what they have been wanting to say and the change they want to see around them. It has also highlighted the fact that the younger generation might have a different take on things altogether. Syra’s character encourages looking beyond set ways of thinking because sometimes small fun-filled gestures break huge barriers of differences. Sometimes fun can change the game.

Next time, if you find yourself thinking about what you should do when you’re in a similar situation, why not try this compassionate route? We bet it will work! You may not see it happening right away, but eventually, the bond will strengthen again as you move closer to your loved ones again.

All great and progressive societies in the world are a result of people coming together. It’s high time now; we must also let go of the barriers that may be keeping us apart so that we can be kinder as we connect with each other at a deeper level. For Pakistan, let’s turn all our ‘Why’s’ into ‘Why Not?’
