In a tragic incident, a woman among five of a family, drowned to death while swimming in the Ghazi Barrage.

The locals dived in the water and rescued other four women who were shifted to Ghazi Hospital for medical aid.

The sources told that tourists and locals flock to the banks of Ghazi Barrage because of extreme heat and enjoy swimming in the cold water. People come for swimming despite a ban. Five women were swimming in the dam yesterday when they propelled deeper and drowned.

The locals rescued could rescue four of five victims. The body of the remaining casualty was later taken out by local divers.

According to the police, a family along with children came to the Ghazi Barrage area of ​​Haripur from Swabi for recreation, but it faced a tragedy. The women who drowned included Saima, Sana, Ishrat and Sabiha while the deceased was identified as Madina Bibi. The rest of the victims were discharged from the hospital after treatment.

The body of the deceased was handed over to her family for burial after legal formalities.

According to the police, a preliminary report of the incident has also been lodged.

The district administration has banned swimming in the barrage and section 144 is already enforced. However, it is not being implemented and drowning cases are being reported periodically.
