Sindh govt offers Rs10m compensation to Dodo Bheel’s heirs

Security guards nominated in FIR still at large

People responsible for the murder of Dodo Bheel will not be able to escape punishment, said Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh and Culture Minister Syed Sardar Shah addressing a press conference at Sindh Assembly Committee Room on Tuesday.

Bheel was tortured to death security guard of a mining company in Thar Coal Block 2 a few days ago.

They said that the Sindh government has announced Rs10 million for helping the family of the deceased and Rs5 million each to both the injured. Moreover, employment will also be offered to the family of the deceased.

The provincial government was in disaster control mode as protest was registered in different towns of Tharparkar district against the failure of Thar police to arrest the killers of Dodo Bheel and torture on the protesters and journalists by police under the supervision of the SSP of the district having the highest Hindu population of the country lying on the border with India.

According to reports from the Islamkot town of sand-swept district the murder has sparked an outrage among the local Hindu population and drawn condemnation from the government and civil society, however, the suspect remains at large.

The only progress so far achieved, according to the minsters was that police have included the names of suspects nominated by Bheel's heirs in the FIR.

Despite being in government, the powerful minister gave assurance that they will serve justice to the oppressed.

Sheikh and Shah said that the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took strict notice of Bheel's brutal murder and directed to take stern action against suspects and address the grievances of the family of the deceased.

The suspects nominated in the murder were immediately suspended and now recommendations have been put forth to immediately dismiss the suspects from employment in Thar coal field.

Imtiaz Sheikh said that after the brutal murder, the PPP MPAs and MNAs are in constant contact with the family members while a team of ministers will also visit Thar tomorrow (Wednesday) and meet the heirs of victim.
