Food dept officials convicted of graft

An accountability court in Quetta has sentenced Balochistan Assistant Director Food Saeed Mengal and Assistant Food Controller Ameer Khosa to a total of 12 years imprisonment over embezzlement.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs100 million on them for causing loss to the national exchequer of millions of rupees.

Accountability Court Judge Allah Dad Roshan announced the verdict in light of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan's investigation and evidence against the accused, according to a press release issued by the bureau on Tuesday.

NAB Special Prosecutor Rashid Golra pursued the case.

During the investigation, the bureau found that accused Saeed, as project director of districts Jaffarabad, Naseerabad and Jhal Magsi, purchased thousands of wheat bags from various PRC centres only on paper.
