Over 7,000 primary schools to be upgraded

6,361 girls and 1,246 boys primary schools would be given the status of middle schools.

The Punjab education ministry has formally approved to upgrade 7,609 primary schools across the province to the middle level from the beginning of the new academic year in August.

The ministry has also released the data of the institutions to be upgraded.

As many as 6,361 girls and 1,246 boys primary schools would be given the status of middle schools in all 36 districts of Punjab.

The highest, 432, primary schools will be upgraded in Rahim Yar Khan district followed by 393 primary level institutions in Bahawalnagar district and 379 primary schools in district Muzaffargarh. Some 336 institutions would be upgraded in Jhang district, 332 in Faisalabad district and 124 schools in Lahore district including 110 girls and 14 boys’ schools will be upgraded.

Rawalpindi division has total158 primary schools, of which 149 are for girls and nine are for boys.

Further, Attock district has 119 schools including 106 for girls and 13 for boys while Jhelum district has 102 schools including 93 for girls and nine for boys.

The data showed Chakwal district has 59 schools including 51 for girls and eight for boys. There are 239 primary schools in the Multan district including 203 for girls and 36 for boys. The education ministry has also approved to start admissions in middle schools after the summer vacations.
