PRCS expands Covid vaccination drive

Effort aimed at containing the spread of the pandemic.

ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has expanded its recently launched campaign for door-to-door and mobile vaccination against the Covid-19 virus to contain the spread of the pandemic in the country.

As part of the initiative, the door-to-door vaccination drive is in full swing in Islamabad in collaboration with the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration. PRCS volunteers, as well as ambulances, are engaged in the vaccination of people at their doorsteps.

The initiative has been launched to facilitate such people who have got themselves registered but could not go to designated vaccination facilities for any reasons.

The PRCS has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the health department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to vaccinate people through mobile vaccination units.

The PRCS in collaboration with the Sindh health department and the National Command and Operation Centre has opened two mobile Covid-19 vaccination units in Karachi at Dolmen Mall and Lucky One Mall.

In a statement, PRCS Chairman Abrarul Haq said the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic has entered a decisive phase as fresh cases were on the decline due to stringent enforcement of safety guidelines by the government and a robust vaccination drive.

He said the third wave of coronavirus was dangerous, more contagious and deadlier as compared to the first two waves, however, the Covid-19 positivity ratio was now going down with each passing day. He said that life has started coming back to normal in most parts of the country.

Haq urged the people to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest as the government has announced to allow the walk-in facility for every individual eligible for vaccination. He also cautioned the citizens to strictly follow health and safety guidelines to help the country defeat the pandemic.

He said that the community-level intervention aims at ensuring that every individual is vaccinated against Covid-19 so that spread of the deadly virus is contained and precious lives saved.
